Project Description – Brine Chiller System Water Box Rebuild and Coat
Application - Clean, rebuild and coat 30 year old brine Chiller Water Box

Problem - – Customer’s Chiller system performance was being affected. System was taken out of service and evaluated. Water box substrate was severely pitted and deteriorated. To restore system performance attributes, customer was facing purchase of major system overhaul, which was expensive, time-consuming and would have system out of service for several months.
Solution - Clean and media blast substrate to SSPC-10, SP-10 Near-White Metal finish. Perform Bresle testing to determine level of chloride contamination. Reduce chloride levels to less than 20mgs/m². Rebuild pitted and deteriorated areas using Belzona 1311 Ceramic R-Metal. During overcoat window of Belzona 1311, mix and apply base coat of Belzona 1321 Ceramic S-Metal (Gray) @ 10-15 mils thick. During overcoat window of base coat of Belzona 1321, mix and apply a top coat of Belzona 1321 (Blue) @ 10-15 mils thick. Allow coating to cure and return system to service.

Belzona 1311 Ceramic R-Metal - A 2-part epoxy-based repair composite designed for metal repair and protection against the effects of erosion and corrosion. This solvent free repair composite has excellent chemical resistance and will bond to all metals and most other rigid surfaces. It is easy to mix and apply without the need for specialist tools and it cures at room temperature eliminating the need for hot work. It is ideally suited to be overcoated withBelzona 1321 (Ceramic S-Metal) to ensure long lasting performance.
Belzona 1321 (Ceramic S-Metal) is a 2-part ceramic filled epoxy coating designed to provide erosion and corrosion resistance of metal surfaces. This solvent free epoxy coating has outstanding chemical resistance and will bond to almost any rigid surface. Due to its high compressive strength it can be also used to create a perfect shim. This material is easy to mix and apply without the need for specialist tools and it cures at room temperature eliminating the need for hot work.
